The reporter learned from the China Basketball Association that the second team of China men’s basketball, led by head coach Han Deng, will depart from Beijing on May 6 and go to Serbia for training, prepare for the U19 men’s basketball World Cup to be held in Hungary from June 24 to July 2.
The 12 players who visited the team this time were: Sun Yahui, Chun-Hao Chang, Li Yongwei, Wan Menglin, Ma Mingkun, Jiang Linjun, He Jiaxuan, Xu Junwei, Wang Haoran, Li Xinyi, qu Xiaoyu and Yang Hansen. In addition, Wang Junjie, light Houran, Zhao Weilun and Ma Junjie are expected to go to Serbia later to join the team. During the training in Serbia, the team will have more than 10 warm-up matches, further run into the team, adapt to the physical confrontation and penalty scale of international events, and then determine the final list of U19 men’s basketball World Cup.
Since late January this year, China’s men’s basketball second team has held intensive training in Haikou, and then participated in the China Basketball Development League as a special invitation in March and April. The development league is a match for the CBA league reserve team. China’s men’s basketball second team achieved a record of 9 wins and 1 loss, and only lost to Qingdao.
In the later stage of training, some players returned to relevant clubs to participate in U Series championships and other competitions, and some players suffered injuries. At present, Liu Jinyu, Liu Lijia and Weng Jinlang have determined that they are the main players in the U18 Asian championship last year when the Chinese team participated in the U19 men’s basketball World Cup due to injury.
Han Deng said that from the situation of participating in the development of the league, the early training of China’s men’s basketball second team has achieved good results and exposed some problems. Now there are some injuries in positions 1 and 2, which brings some difficulties to the team’s preparation.
In the U19 World Cup group match, the Chinese team was divided into Group A with the Canadian team, the French team and the Spanish team. In the U19 men’s basketball World Cup held in 2021, France, Canada and Spain won the second, third and fifth place respectively. Canada and Spain also had the record of winning the championship in previous competitions.
Han Deng said: “the group match of the Chinese team is definitely not easy to play. Overall, the task is relatively arduous. Judging from the situation of the U18 Asian championship last year, the ability of these young players does not have obvious advantages in Asia. Based on our own level, we will fully tap the potential of the players and play our own style and spirit.”
