I agree that Inoue takes Miyagi as the leading role, not only to supplement the relatively weak background setting of Miyagi, but also to express some of his personal feelings more easily in Miyagi. Inoue doesn’t tell you who is the champion of the national competition, because proving yourself to be a winner doesn’t need to be a champion.
